The Descent of the Seven: A Cardinal Seven

The Descent of the Seven: A Cardinal Genesis

In the cradle of first light, seven seeds lay hidden.
Stone hummed beneath the builder’s palm.
And for a time humanity walked beside the divine.
But peace grew heavy where power longed to rise.

I. Sloth – The Abandonment
The Keepers grew weary.
Not from labor,
but from longing for ease.
They laid down their tools
and crowned their leisure sacred.
Creation sighed—unfinished.

II. Pride – The Ascent
Once idle, they climbed.
Not to serve, but to be seen.
Refusing dirt on their garments,
they adorned themselves in sun.
To toil became taboo.
To stand above became law.

III. Greed – The Claiming
They took what was beneath them
not to feed,
but to possess.
Gold was no longer a metal
it became a mirror.
And in it, they loved only themselves.

IV. Envy – The Stirring
Below, the nameless stared upward.
Their hunger turned to heat.
They saw not gods,
but takers.
And in the ache of what they could not touch,
Envy opened her eyes.

V. Lust – The Twisting
Desire was born noble
but in the shadow of power,
it bent.
No longer union,
but ownership.
No longer reaching,
but seizing.

VI. Gluttony – The Hollow Feast
They ate not to live,
but to forget.
Drank not to feel joy,
but to drown absence.
The table stretched endless
yet none were full.

VII. Wrath – The Reckoning
When all the sins had set their roots,
Wrath became wildfire.
Not blind
but burning by design.
It did not cleanse.
It consumed.

And so the world broke not by thunder,
but by appetite.
